Welcome to the country - just a short drive from the city!

220 acres of hills, trees, ponds, cattle and horses, dogs and barn cats, and even a llama, await you in Blanchard, Oklahoma, just southwest of Oklahoma City, straight west of Norman, and down the road a piece from Chickasha. Kick up your feet and watch the sun set while the cattle graze. Or get up before dawn and see if the fish are biting. Read a book or take a walk. Say "hi" to the horses and meander through our little vineyard.

Brad, Carrie, Elizabeth and Samri Bertrand live on land that belonged to Carrie's grandfather, Jay Harold Short. Like Carrie, Harold raised cattle too, but his herd got rustled and so he stuck with his main occupation, architecture. So far, we haven't lost any cows, but just in case, we're keeping our day jobs too. Upon buying the adjacent farm, we decided to remodel the old farm house that came with it and open up Blanchard Farm Stay to guests looking for a country visit that isn't too far from the city.

Our guest house has three lovely rooms designed for a quiet retreat or a family getaway - The Merlot Suite, Ocean View and the Wild West. When you stay a Blanchard Farm Stay you have the living room, dining room, kitchen and laundry room for your private use as well, making it great for stays of several nights.

If you are looking for a special place to celebrate an anniversary, honeymoon, or just a quiet weekend with your loved one, then the Merlot Suite is waiting for you. The beautifully appointed room with a king-size bed, large, flat-screen TV, stereo, DVD player, and a corner fireplace wrap you in warmth and comfort. With a beautiful private master bath, you can soak in the oversized jacuzzi or enjoy the separate double-headed two-person shower. The rates range from $130, $145 or $160, depending on your breakfast option.

Kids over ten are always welcome and they will love the Wild West room with horses, horses everywhere. Or they'll enjoy the Ocean View room with a great view of the Big Pond and accents of the ocean, including Nemo. Both rooms have full-size beds and a DVD player. The kid's end of the house has its own black and white Retro Bathroom that everyone gets a kick out of using - also complete with a jacuzzi and separate shower. The rates are $60 for either room. These rooms are only rented with the Merlot Suite, not individually.

You'll enjoy visiting our farm where we raise black baldies and generally keep a herd of about 25 cows and one bull, and depending on the time of year, lots of cute little calves. Our llama, Livingston, faithfully watches over the herd. We also have eight horses, primarily Thoroughbreds and a couple of stock horses, that we use for pleasure and occasionally a horseshow or two. Call about private trail rides.

If you come yearly you'll get to see our boutique vineyard develop and if its the right time of year you might even pick some grapes, blackberries and raspberries. We also have ten fruit trees that should begin to give us some fruit for the pickin' too.

If you like fishing, we have three ponds, all stocked with bass and catfish - so catch-and-release all you like. Brad can set you up with poles.

Like hiking and bird watching? Well, we have plenty of trails and trees.

If you are traveling with your trusty steeds, we have four stalls we can make available for $25 per night per stall. We'll provide the bedding and water, you provide the feed and hay. There is a boarding kennel just around the corner if you like to travel with "man's best friend".
